Occupation/branch of service: Combat Correspondent-Public Affairs Communications Strategies and Operations Specialist, Headquarters and Support Battalion., Marine Corps Installations Pacific-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan.

Volunteer start date and total # of volunteer hours: LCpl Schwamb has been volunteering with USO Camp Foster since May 2017 and has accumulated 238 hours.

How did the volunteer hear about volunteering with USO Okinawa and what made him/her want to get involved with the USO?

LCpl Schwamb has always loved volunteering. When she got to island, she wanted to be involved with the military community and make a difference, so she went looking for volunteering opportunities. She had tried other organizations like the Red Cross and Single Marine Program but when she walked into the USO she felt right at home, she knew it would be the place for her, and she fell in love with it.

What’s the best thing about volunteering?

“The people are the best thing about volunteering. Making a difference in the military community, making friends and keeping the center open so we can give them that space to hang out and relax is the best feeling in the world. The USO volunteers are like a family to me which is a blessing being so far away from home. I’ve made some of my closest friends through volunteering, and I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings,” says Schwamb.

What’s a fun fact about the volunteer? A fun fact about LCpl Schwamb is that she loves photography, people, and baking!
